There’s a chill in the air this morning in Michigan. The pine trees are swaying a bit in the breeze. Most of the leaves have fallen from our maple, oak and birch trees.

I miss the fall colors. I look forward to a little snow around Christmas, but I already yearn for spring.

The long sunny days will be missed. It lifts everyone’s spirits and supplies natural vitamin D that boosts the immune system. I will be supplementing this winter.

Well the plow is ready for the snow and the outside faucets turned off. Just can’t wait for summer…

My brother Jerry fell and hit his head. The doctors are grim and aren’t sure he will make it. If he does it still may be unpleasant

Please say a prayer that God will shine His white light and grace upon my brother.

Thanks

Lambert

UPDATE:  Jerry seems to be improving so we are hoping. He’s talking some and is upset with the nurses and docrors, so that may be a good sign.

We hear a lot about LDL the cholesterol that we want to keep under control. You don’t want it to raise too much.

HDL is the good cholesterol. The one with the white hat.  You want to be sure that it is high enough. This can be hard to do with the modern lifestyle, but there are ways to accomplish our goal.

HDL: level that’s around 50 to 60 mg/dl is a good target to shoot for.

One of the best ways is with exercise. This will get us in shape physically and help us shed pounds if needed.

Fish and fish oil such as krill oil will help to keep your HDL in great shape. The omega-3 fatty acids are great for this as well as increasing heart health and brain power.

Don’t forget those green leafy vegetables as well as nuts and purple skinned fruits.

Alcohol in moderation can improve your HDL levels but it may not be the best choice.

Avoid sugar, refined foods and quit smoking if you want to increase your HDL and overall health. Many things that improves your health in general will also help your cholesterol levels.

Niacin is another option to increase HDL. So there are many ways to improve your cholesterol levels. A side benefit for you will be improved overall health as well.

Something to think about….

When allergy season hits, do you find yourself sniffling and sneezing your way through the day? If so, you already know that allergies are no fun, and you might be seeking natural ways to relieve allergies without having to take prescription medications. Maybe prescription medications haven’t even worked for you! Have no fear, try these simple solutions below and one might just be what you’ve been searching for.

 Drinking More Water

You may have discovered this already, but if you drink more water, mucus secretions will be thinner and your nose won’t be dried out from constantly blowing it.

 Vitamins and Minerals

Among the natural remedies that can help are vitamins A, B5, B12, C, and E. They all have different effects on the body, so be sure to consult a natural health expert, pharmacist or doctor before taking them. Omega-3 fatty acids, grape seed extract, and pantethine are some more supplements that will help reduce your allergic reactions.

 Herbs

Some herbal remedies include kelp, which boosts the immune system, licorice root, which reduces inflammation, and ginger root, which helps to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Marshmallow root relieves irritation, while burdock clears congestion and mullein helps to soothe your throat. Some people report great success treating hay fever with stinging nettle. There are a great number of herbs to help naturally treat allergies, but not all of them might work for you because everyone’s body chemistry is different, so you may have to experiment.

 Butterbur

One herb in particular, butterbur, has received great attention lately, as it proved just as effective as a regular antihistamine medication in treating symptoms of allergies without the side-effect of drowsiness, and it has been given approval as an allergy remedy by British researchers.

 Spicy Foods

Another way to thin mucus secretions is through eating spicy foods! Onion, garlic, hot ginger and cayenne pepper are common choices, but any spicy food that clears your nasal passages can bring you temporary natural relief from the suffering of allergies.

 Neti Pot

A special pot that helps you wash out your sinuses, many allergy sufferers swear by it. If you have a little money to invest, you might find this solution works well for you.

Some natural remedies can have adverse effects when taken in combination with other medications or natural remedies, so seek the advice of your doctor as to which herbs and vitamins you should take. Natural remedies can really help prevent you from suffering from allergies during that season!
