With all the convenient food that we have all around us it’s hard to resist eating more than we should. The lifestyle  of today can easily promote weight gain. Instead of walking places we either jump in the car or pick up the phone, or both.

Well there are steps we can take to lose weight. Of course there are diet pills and quick weight loss programs out there but that’s not the complete recipe to success.

It’s important that you go about your weight loss program in a sensible and safe way. Eating healthy foods and getting exercise is a big step toward your goal, but be sensible in how you go about it.

You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets.  Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes.  This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.Low Calorie Diets DON’T WORK.

Things You Can do to Help You Sleep Better

Millions of adults will suffer from insomnia at some point in their lives. Not being able to sleep is not just annoying, it can take a significant toll on our mental and physical health. If you are having trouble sleeping, you need to investigate ways to help you sleep better. Keep reading for some great tips that can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep.

 

First of all, you need to develop a night time ritual for bedtime. For example, at the same time every evening, turn off the TV and just relax, read or meditate for about thirty minutes. Clear your mind of the stresses of the day and tell yourself that you won’t think of them again until tomorrow when you are well rested. Feel free to indulge in a glass of milk during this time. Milk has been proven to aid in sleep.

 

Next, you must keep your bedroom comfortable to induce sleep. Use an air conditioner or fans to keep it below 75 degrees. Do not use the bedroom for any other purpose other than sleep and sex. It is important that you do not have any type of bright light shining into your bedroom. If you don’t like total darkness, you can have a soft nightlight in your room. Having a dark bedroom will send the signals to your brain that it is time to sleep.

 

Stay away from caffeine and nicotine at least four to six hours before bedtime. These are central nervous systems stimulants and they will keep you awake. It is also important that you don’t eat a heavy meal before bedtime or drink a lot of fluid. This can make you uncomfortable or have you up during the night for bathroom trips.

 

If there is a lot of outside noise that is keeping you awake, get some earplugs to wear at night. Some people sleep better with soft background music or white noise. Find what works the best for you and use it every night.

 

If you still are having trouble relaxing after you go to bed, do some relaxation exercises. Close your eyes and take some deep, breaths. In through your nose and out through your mouth. Start by focusing on your toes and feet, mentally willing them to relax. Work your way up your body, visualizing each part and mentally willing the muscles to relax and become lose. This relaxation trick works very well for inducing sleep.

 

So there you have some great tips to help you sleep better.  It is best to avoid alcohol and sleeping pills. These can be habit forming and cause rebound effects. The best way to get better sleep is to have a comfortable, cool, dark sleeping environment. Learn to relax and enjoy a restful night’s sleep.

Geothermal: Do your homework

We just had a Geothermal system put in. All was fine, but after about three or four days, my wife and I started feeling sick.

I was lifgt-headed. My wife was more sensitive and had headaches, burping, nausia, upset stomach, and burning eyes.

The technicians were out but couldn’t find anything wrong.

We have it off most the time and is frustrating with high tempurtures and humidity.

We had the ductwork cleaned, vacuum serveral times and dusted to no avail. Everytime we put it back on the symtoms come back mildly in a few hours, then worst in about a day.

The company isn’t very cooperative, and it’s very frustrating. Never imagined having these problems.

If we can’t fix this fixed then what do we do? Install another regular furnace and air condictoner?

Will keep you updated on this nightmare.

8-25-08

Update we had another technician out he replaced part of the ductwork they installed that had insulation glued to the inside. Thought we were sensitive to the glue. When it was removed it did have a strong order. It will take a few days to see if that was it. As of now we still smell it.

Had our carpet cleaned just in case that may help.

8-28-08 Put in new filter, ran unit for a while, still was emitting some fumes.

8-30-08  We think ( hope) that it is finally clearing up. Will let you know. If you ever get a GeoThermal (water furnace), you may want to ask the duckwork installer to leave the insulation and glue out. We haven’t notice any increase in noise without it.

Besides this problem we think GeoThermal cooling/heating will save us quite abit even though it’s expensive to install.
